The River’s Longing

Mahafuzur Rahman Sourav
Dhaka – Bangladesh
Far up the mountain where the glaciers melt,
A chilling touch of early frost is felt.
A tiny stream is born from weeping stone,
Begins its journey through the world alone.
It carves the canyon and it breaks the rock,
Unfazed by time or any thunderous shock.
It sings a song of motion and of change,
Through forests green and deserts dry and strange.
It seeks the ocean, vast and wild and blue,
To lose its name and find a newer hue.
And isn’t human life much like the stream?
We chase a distant, half-forgotten dream.
We flow through joy, we crash through grief and pain,
Until we rise as clouds and fall as rain.
The journey matters more than where we stand,
As flowing waters shape the shifting land.
