The Cries of Ahlam

إيناس رشيد | شاعرة من سوريا

The stiff-necked father came home someday
To Find out his daughter was walking astray
He kicked her down to kiss the ground
Started to beat her, in a savage way
The little young girl started to cry
Asking for help, and praying to die
But god was busy minding his business
Like always, he continues to deny

The father sat there drinking his tea
The daughter was sinking in her bloody sea
Beside her he sat, his triumph to celebrate
With a stone to kill her, he didn’t hesitate
“A man, a man” the crowd was shouting
“A rat, a beast” humanity was flouting
Dreams was the meaning of the girl’s name
And Cursed by it, she was killed for shame

Her cries will always chase them all
Her father, the neighbours who tried to ignore
May she finally rest in peace
And may god have mercy upon her soul
